Week 2 in the Hole
Last week was a catastrophe. Lesson learned: don’t ever start a body cleanse your first week back home. It’s hard to stay strong when my mom keeps wanting to take me out to lunch and my friends want to kick back with beers and catch up. Obviously I’m a slave to peer pressure. This week will be better though!
In addition to all the stuff from last week, I’m allowed to have eggs or beans (one or the other per day, not both on the same day), green apples, rice cakes, and peppers. Yay jalapenos!
Things I’ve learned:
- how to make a million different meals out of rice and quinoa
- how to balance my meals
- how to live without sugar (except that one night; it was my brother’s birthday party)
- more often than not, you’re thirsty, not hungry!
- how to make lemon vinaigrette dressing. Now I’ll actually ENJOY salad!
Things I need to work on:
- Saying no to beer. I can’t help it; I love it.
- Saying no to cake and ice cream
- Making smart choices at restaurants (no ‘breaks’ allowed!)
I’m starting to think that this would have been better to try when I moved back to Arcata. Because up there, I have a bazillion bills to pay and I can’t afford much else besides rice and veggies. How convenient! Also, my roommates aren’t the types of people who give me funny looks and then try to give me cake if I tell them I’m on a body cleanse (“You don’t NEED to diet!” “That’s not the frigging point, mom!”). HOWEVER, Ruby’s 21st birthday is right after I start my 3rd week. I’ll probably need to fast a couple days after that to make up for how bad I’m going to be. Cross your fingers for me, folks. I’m going to go make a salad now.
